Adult Training Whether you’re picking up a volleyball for the first time or looking to take your game to the next level, our Adult Training program is here to help you grow your skills, fitness, and confidence—on and off the sand. All levels welcome, good vibes guaranteed.
We have structured our Adult Training program to cater for all levels, using a letter-based grading system from Single B (‘B’) to Double AA (‘AA’) as shown below:Beginner B – Suitable for complete beginners and those very new to the sportBeginner BB – Ongoing development of fundamental skills and movementsIntermediate BBB – Develop depth of skills and strategiesIntermediate A – Progress skills and strategies towards masteryAdvanced AA – Fine-tune your game towards perfectionThe grading system is indicative only, and is not used for an Club player grading and may not be reflective of your level when participating in tournaments or other events.Class availability is seasonal and dependent on coach availability.
Beginner B These classes focus on foundational skills for players new to beach volleyball. No previous experience or prior knowledge required. Participants begin their beach volleyball journey through basic drills and games in a fun, social setting.You will learn:The basic beach volleyball techniques – serving, passing, setting, and spiking.An introduction to player positioning and movement on the court.An introduction to physical conditioning (stamina, agility) required for beach volleyball.These classes are played on a mixed height net. Beginner BB These classes are for players who have developed basic skills and an understanding of the game, and are continuing skill refinement and increased game awareness.You will learn:Improved ball control in passing, accuracy in setting and attacking with precision.An introduction to basic offensive and defensive strategies.A progression in court positioning for different game situations.These classes are played on a mixed height net.
Intermediate BBB These classes are for players who can demonstrate the basic skills consistently and are ready to fine-tune their skills and strategies.You will learn:An introduction to more advanced technical skills (e.g., jump serving, different blocking strategies, and setting variations).Progression of on-court positioning and team communication.More complex offensive and defensive systems (e.g., transition play).A focus on mental toughness, reading the game, and making tactical decisions.These classes are offered on a men’s/women’s/mixed height net. Intermediate A These classes are for experienced players who possess strong technical skills, and can execute varied strategies consistently.You will learn:Continuation towards mastery of specialized skills (e.g., advanced serving techniques, high-level setting, and effective blocking).Tactical drills focusing on exploiting opponent weaknesses.Improving reactions under pressure, game intelligence, and team coordination.Building strength and explosiveness for better performance in jumps, blocks, and quick transitions.These classes are played on a men’s/women’s/mixed height net.
Advanced AA These classes are for players who possess very strong technical skills, a deep understanding of the game, and can execute varied and complex strategies consistently.You will learn:Perfecting technical aspects of the game.Advanced tactical play such as reading opposition strategies, and exploiting weaknesses.Improving reactions under pressure, game intelligence, and team coordination.Maintaining strength and explosiveness for high performance in jumping, blocks, and changes of direction.These classes are offered on a men’s/women’s height net.

What training classes do you offer? CBVA has several affiliated coaches. You can read about each of our coaches here. We offer a range of classes, from beginners through to experienced players. The cost of classes will depend on the type of class and the experience of the coach. Classes generally ranges from $25 – $45 and registered CBVA Trainees/Members can see the upcoming training class schedule/book into lessons via the club RevSport portal. If you would like to learn more about our training class options, please e-mail coaching@cbva.org.au. How do I know which level is best for me? Feel free to share your beach volleyball experience with our team via an email to coaching@cbva.org.au and one of our coaches or volunteers will help point you in the right direction. If you’ve never played before, we’d suggest registering as a Trainee and signing up for our Beginner B class. For all others, it may take one or two sessions to find the level that’s right for you. Do you do Private Classes? Our coaches may be able to facilitate private group lessons. To train at Coogee, you would still need to be registered as a CBVA Trainee at a minimum.
