Beach clean up with Plastic Free CoogeeA group of brave CBVA members joined forces with Plastic Free Coogee and other local community groups to spend a sunny Sunday morning treasure hunting for rubbish around Coogee. The amount of rubbish collected was impressive (and not necessarily in a good way).Thanks for helping to keep our lovely home clean. Alan Wilton Memorial State of Origin Tournament & Start of Season PartyWhile team Chocolate & Co may have dominated the tournament this year, many of you dominated the dance floor at our ‘Under the Sea’ themed party at FNKY Coogee. Thanks to Chantal, Jordi, Guido, Ines, and Emilie for helping to organise both events. Congratulations to Abu, Alice, Nacho, Izaia and Mica for winning the tournament. The tournament was played in a spirit fitting of Alan’s values, and it was great to have his brother Mark attend to see CBVA still carrying on the tradition in Alan’s memory.Junior tournament resultsOur Juniors have kicked off the season with some great results at the Brighton round of the VNSW Youth Beach Series.Congratulations to the following players for their achievements:Gold medal U15 girls: Amelia A, Bella C, Yasmin J.Bronze medal U15 girls (U14 team): Mia M, Anais M, Allegra B-S, Kate L.Bronze medal U16 boys: Sora S-L.Silver medal U15 boys: Leo M, Frederick B.Bronze medal U15 boys: Jasper C, Oliver G, Sunny S.It’s great to see our Junior athletes having fun and giving it their best. If you’ve seen Tilly on the promenade popping her head over the wall, you will know her laser-like ball tracking has made her a favourite amongst members. In the spirit of being a Club for all types, we put her through a new member skills assessment and she passed comfortably, demonstrating exceptional ball control and foot work. We gave her a t-shirt to go, and a size-appropriate mini Mikasa (thanks to beachvolleyball.com.au for that).Finally, congratulations to our member Abu Kamara for receiving an award for ‘Sports Personality of the Year’ presented by AWOL, a charity who recognise outstanding achievements of Sierra Leoneans in the community.See you on the beach (or under the sea),CBVA Board
